What’s at stake for South Dakota Republicans on November 3rd – and why sitting this one out is not an option.
There is a temptation, in a state as reliably Republican as South Dakota, to treat a midterm election as a routine exercise. Check the box, return to normal life, trust that things will work out. I am here to tell you that temptation is one we cannot afford this fall.
November 3rd is not a routine election. It is a choice – one with consequences that will be felt in Pierre and in Washington, at the kitchen table and at the county commission meeting, in our schools and on our farms. What South Dakotans decide on November 3rd will shape the direction of this state and this country for years to come.
Start with Washington. President Trump is delivering on the agenda that Americans sent him back to finish – securing the border, cutting taxes, rebuilding American strength, and returning power to the states and the people. But none of that happens on autopilot. Every seat in Congress is a vote for or against the agenda. Democrats have made no secret of their intentions – they will obstruct, they will investigate, and they will do everything in their power to grind progress to a halt. South Dakota Republicans have the opportunity to make sure that does not happen. We cannot leave that opportunity on the table.
Closer to home, the state legislature will continue the work of governing South Dakota according to the principles that have made this one of the best states in the nation to live, work, and raise a family. That work requires Republicans who are committed to those principles – not just in campaign season, but in Pierre when the votes are hard and the pressure is real. The candidates on the Republican ticket this November are ready for that work. They need your support.
South Dakotans will also face a series of ballot amendments this fall that deserve serious attention. Some of these measures would strengthen the foundations of our state. Others would alter them in ways that warrant real scrutiny. Republican voters need to be informed, engaged, and ready to make their voices heard on every line of the ballot – not just at the top.
This is the moment. Fifty-three days from now, the polls will close and the results will stand. Between now and then, every conversation matters, every door knock matters, and every vote matters. South Dakota Republicans have never backed down from a fight worth having, and this is a fight worth having.
